Peace Education Scotland and Glasgow Women’s Library held this online gathering in August 2021 – bringing intergenerational activists and an audience together on the 40th anniversary of the beginning of Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp. The event celebrated the contributions of women within anti-nuclear movements, and explored the legacy the Greenham Women left on peace activism and on protest culture today.
The event had contributions from speakers including Caroline Gausden, (Glasgow Women’s Library), Yvonne Billimore, (Artist and Curator), Kate Kelly, Iona Soper, (Peace Education Scotland), Jane Tallents (Trident Ploughshares), Sheila MacKay and Margaret Bremner (Gareloch Horticulturalists Nonviolent Direct Action).
Each come with their own connections to Greenham, from personal experience to archival research through a feminist lens and made connections with the unfolding stories of those affected by Nuclear Colonialism .
