Support the Botanic Gardens Peace Garden

🌿 Event – Friday 6th June 2025🌿

Join us at 11am on 6th June 2025 in the Botanic Gardens for the soft launch of the Glasgow Lord Provost’s Peace Garden and a celebration of local children’s peace-themed projects. 📍 The new garden is located near the pond, just before the Kibble Palace. 📍

About the Peace Garden

In this 80th year since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Peace Education Scotland is teaming up with the Lord Provost’s office and the Botanic Gardens Glasgow to create a lasting symbol of peace – a Peace Garden led by children and inspired by hope. 🌿

Already, 50 local primary pupils have learned about ginkgo saplings grown from seeds that survived Hiroshima – a living reminder of resilience and the global call for peace from the Mayors for Peace initiative.

This special garden will feature poetry, art, stories, and ceramic cranes, all created by local children through workshops with professional poets, artists and potters. It’s about planting the seeds of peace in the next generation.

How You Can Help

We are seeking your support – you can donate via this Crowdfunding Appeal to make it happen. Help is needed to purchase materials, to pay expenses and to pay for the tutors needed for the activities. We need ÂŁ2200 but please give what you can. Please help us build a space that celebrates discussion over division, creativity over conflict.

📅 Opening: 6th June 2025 – with poems, haikus and songs
📅 Formal Launch: 6th August 2025 – led by Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren
