We are pleased to release a new resource on the United Nations.
This resource is a basic review of the role of the United Nations in the creation of international law. We use the example of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons as an illustration of the UN’s role in promoting international peace and security. This is especially topical as the Treaty came into force on January 22nd 2021.
The resource is aimed at secondary students from S1 to S3 and intended to take 2 periods. You can find each element of the resource to download below:
- PowerPoint presentation
– A general introduction to the UN and the TPNW. - PDF worksheet – This worksheet can be used in conjunction with the PowerPoint and factsheet. The worksheets can be downloaded as a static PDF
or an interactive PDF
with fill-in boxes (similar to digital exam papers). - PDF factsheet – An information sheet
about nuclear weapons and the TPNW’s role, with 4 sources of evidence to help students consider whether Britain should ratify the Treaty. - PDF on nuclear explosions – We would highly recommend, if you have not already done so, reading this explanation of the effects of a nuclear explosion – The Effects of a Nuclear Weapon Explosion
